Chancellor pressed over whose idea it was to ditch tax plan

Kwasi Kwarteng has been defending the government decision to abandon the plan to abolish the top rate of income tax for the highest earners

Pressed on whose idea it was to ditch the plan after Prime Minister Liz Truss expressed support for it yesterday, the chancellor said it was a decision reached collaboratively.

He says he’s taken responsibility for the plan, after listening to colleagues, stakeholders and voters.
