In August 2020, Chadwick Boseman passed away at 43 due to complications from colon cancer, which he was diagnosed with at Stage 3 in 2016. He kept his illness secret from the public, with only close associates aware of that fact. In a statement released by his team on the day of his death, it was acknowledged that playing the title role in Black Panther was “the honor of his career.” With the upcoming sequel, titled Wakanda Forever set to hit theaters next month, the surviving members of the original film’s cast took the opportunity to visit his final resting place prior to production.
